It was a humble life that awaited Arata when he was born in the mining town of Hatra. His youth would be one spent idyllically in the countryside with the goal to follow in his family's footsteps and become a blacksmith, and perhaps even find a sweetheart one day. But just as easily as this future was promised was it snatched away when a horrific fate befell Hatra, an evil sealed deep within the caverns unleashed in gaseous form, causing much of the town's population to fall ill. With Hatra devastated and his parents gone, Arata found himself walking south with little but a few sola to his name. He was wiry and strong, and found himself easily enrolled into the ranks of the capital city's guard. The boy was happy to have structure in his life again, and took to the early mornings and rigorous days, earning him the approval of his superiors.

Only, everything changed when one day a young fennec crashed into him in a hurry. The two made fast friends over a meal of dumplings, and on their second meeting, he finally realised that this girl was not just any fox, but the sole heir to the Suzaku Dynasty, Tomoe Suzaku. Despite this revelation, their friendship only strengthened, and the two were eventually inseparable. Before he knew it, she asked Arata to be her Honour Guard, a position that he accepted and that saw him promoted to the elite ranks of the Burning Plume. Arata keeps his head held high despite the whispers of guards and nobles alike as they speak of how he was merely favoured by the sole heir, and that he does not deserve his position. Though he will forever hold true to his humble heart, he strives to do his best each and every day so that he may prove his detractors wrong and do right by his family.
