The league is free to participate in for EVERYONE, and everyone who participates will receive a free promo card! There are even more prizes to be won for those who complete the league and earn a high amount of points!
The league begins on February 1st! Scroll down to learn more!
How Do I Get Involved?
This is the easy part! All you need to do to be entered into the league is play a game of Animal Kingdom with other players who also want to enter the league, then report the results.
For this league, there are two ways to play. You can access both methods via the Play tab of our website, or by clicking this link!
Download our Tabletop Simulator plugin and arrange some games with other folks in the Animal Kingdom TCG Discord server.
Download our Print and Play decks, and either play in person or over webcam with other players. (Yes, you can play in person with your friends and report the results to us on Discord!)
The league is running for 4 weeks, broken down into four 1-week portions. These are:
Week 1: February 1st - February 7th
Week 2: February 8th - February 14th
Week 3: February 15th - February 21st
Week 4: February 22nd - February 28th
We’ll be using UTC as the time zone to determine when the weeks begin and end, so please plan your games accordingly!
The Mayor's Journal
It's vital to your participation.
Here you can find a link to your Mayor’s Journal. A lot of important information relevant to the league and your goals can be found here. If you were playing in a paper league you’d be handed a physical booklet copy of this as an easy way to keep tabs on your own progress!
Inside you’ll find the basic explanation of how the league works, and more importantly you’ll find the objectives that you need to complete along with the number of points that they’re worth.
Each week has its own set of Weekly Objectives, which can only be completed within that 1 week period. If you fail to achieve any of them within that week then too bad, but don’t fret too much as there are plenty more points to earn!
Below those, you’ll find the Seasonal Objectives. These are the longer and more difficult objectives that you’ll work towards over the 4-week period. They’re worth more points if you complete them, and might even require you to use specific strategies to be able to pull them off.
Finally at the end you’ll find the City Map of Namitori. Next to each landmark is listed the number of points that you need in order to get there, and at the end of each week we’ll use it to show off everybody’s progress. Do your best to get enough points to escape the city before the month is over, so that you can earn your playset of the Promotional Card!
What Are The Rules?
For those of you who are new to the world of Animal Kingdom we have some cool resources to help you out! You can check out our Quickstart Rules and our fully voice acted How to Play video! We also have an FAQ channel on our Discord server for some questions that go into a little more detail about some aspects of the rules. A list of FAQ's can also be found in the back of the Quickstart Rules.
Mayors have requested more details on certain advanced aspects of the rules, such as how priority works and the Action Queue. We will be making a supplemental rules document available in the Print and Play zip file, as well as linking to the document via our Discord server. These supplemental rules will be available on or before February 1st.
If any other ruling questions come up that can’t be resolved in your match, please post them in the ruling-questions channel in our Discord server and use the @Judge tag. We will reply as soon as we can, but due to timezones there’s a fair chance that you may have to resolve it to the best of your ability using information in the Quickstart Rules and FAQs.
As far as arranging and playing matches, the rules are simple.
4-player matches are the primary game type for Animal Kingdom, but for this league, 2, 3 or 4-player matches can count towards your results. Some seasonal objectives are only able to be completed in 4-player matches.
There’s no limit to the number of games that you can play each week.
We recommend that matches be arranged in our discord server for ease of communication, as text and voice channels will be available for game chat.
We realise that there’s a large element of good-faith in any online tournament system, so we ask that you play nice and report games honestly.
What Cards Can I Use to Build My Deck?
The Tabletop Simulator addon and the Print and Play download contain 4 complete playable decks, as well as the additional 30 Hero Pack cards.
You’re free to use any of the cards from this pool to create your decks, as long as you abide by the deck building restrictions that are in the Quickstart Rules.
This means that the following cards are unable to be used:
Tomoe & Natasha, Winter Festival (Patreon Assistant Mayor)
The Battle Beyond the Veil (Cosmopunk Promo)
Cards revealed on Kickstarter or on social media that are not included in the Starter Decks or Hero Pack 1 (e.g. Fire Lily Perfumer, Foamcaller Meltem)
Cards delivered via Patreon prior to Kickstarter that are not included in the Starter Decks or Hero Pack 1 (e.g. Dishonourable Duelist, Decisive Strike)
If you're uncertain about whether a card is legal to use in the Adventure League, feel free to ask us on Discord!
You don’t need to stick to the same deck throughout the tournament. If you’ve realised something in your deck doesn’t work how you thought it would, you’ve had a good synergy idea after a match, or even if you want to play a completely different Attribute, feel free!
Reporting Your Results
Since this is our inaugural league and is being run largely across Discord and Tabletop Simulator, we’ll have a new channel open on our Discord server specifically for reporting the results of league matches.
Once you’ve finished a match, nominate a player to head over to the League Reports channel and report the results of the match in there. This just needs to be a post in the channel that needs to include the following information:
Who participated in the match (use their Discord tag) and which Assistant Mayors did they use
Who won the match
Which objectives did each player achieve or work towards, and by how much Optionally, if you'd like to help us monitor results and game balance:
How much Renown did everyone finish on
Any additional thoughts or comments on the match
Once these have been posted we’ll use that to tally up the results and keep track of how everyone is doing. We’ll share updates each week to show people’s progress!
Generally speaking, participating mayors should be in the Discord server. Please encourage anybody who wants to enter the league to join the Discord server in order to make it easier for us. If there are players who are unable to for any reason, please report their result with their preferred name and send @MonsterChannel a private message.
How Do I Win?
At the end of the 4th week we’ll tally up everyone’s final scores and use those to determine the final rankings! In the event of a tiebreaker we’ll use the player’s win/loss ratios to determine who came out on top!
Hopefully that gives you all of the information you need, answers all of your burning questions, and you’re now excited to go and build your own deck! If you still do have any questions please get in touch and we’ll answer them as soon as we can.
There’s only a few days until the league begins though, so have fun building your decks, have fun discussing your ideas, and most of all have fun playing Animal Kingdom with other people!
